Local Culinary Leaders Inspire at Inaugural ‘NOLATalk’

The Greater New Orleans area is home to approximately 1.2 million people, about 111,000 of whom have jobs supported by the local hospitality and tourism industry. It’s not only servers and hotel valets. The industry employs accountants, transportation managers, lawyers, chefs and many other career pathways within the industry.

Our new NOLATalk event series aims to shed light on these different pathways, promoting and inspiring a motivated workforce for years to come!

Our first NOLATalk took place on May 11 at the New Orleans Museum of Art. After an opening reception, Hyatt Regency Chef de Cuisine Sylvain Tonello provided a cooking demonstration. That was followed by a panel chat, featuring three local culinary leaders: Ti Adelaide Martin of Commander’s Palace, La Petite Grocery’s Justin Devillier and Emery Whalen with Our House Hospitality. Journalist Norman Robinson moderated an hour-long conversation filled with insight, advice and knowledge for all who took part.

Emery Whalen provided one of the most quotable moments.

“Food, water, wine – you can get that anywhere. It’s the way we serve it to you that sets us apart.”

Thank you to everyone who attended the first ever NOLATALK event last night! A special thank you to Chef Sylvain Tonello…
